MISSION

Intercommunity Development exists to uplift and empower individuals and communities in Sierra Leone. We equip people with the tools, opportunities, and education they need to achieve independent success — and in turn, strengthen their communities for lasting change.

VISION

We envision thriving, self-reliant communities in Sierra Leone where girls and women lead, education flourishes, and cultural traditions are honored while harmful practices are left behind. A future where dignity, equity, and opportunity are the foundation of everyday life.

VALUES

  • Equity: We recognize and actively work to address the impacts of colonization, poverty, and systemic inequality.

  • Community Strength: We believe every person has intrinsic value and communities already hold the strengths they need to thrive.

  • Education: We see education and literacy as the foundation for opportunity and change.

  • Girls’ Leadership: We invest in girls and women, knowing that when they rise, entire communities thrive.

  • Respect for Culture: We honour Sierra Leone’s traditions and only intervene when practices cause harm.

  • Transparency: We commit to honesty and accountability in how we operate and use resources.

  • Local Leadership: We hire locally, purchase locally, and ensure resources stay rooted in Sierra Leone communities.

Guiding Principals

  • Anti-Oppressive Practice: We challenge systems of power and ensure our work affirms people’s identities and lived experiences.

  • Feminist Approach: We center women and girls, promoting their voices, choices, and leadership.

  • Community First: We partner with communities as equals — not directing, but walking alongside.

  • Sustainability: Our goal is not dependency, but self-reliance and community-led growth.
